My love for all things lapidary began with Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper and the Lion’s Den vein. As a child, my hero was my grandfather, with his eccentric quirks, cowboy hat, and horses; he and his wife, Elaine, rented land across Monterey Road from where the Jasper sat. The folks who lived in the red house that once stood on the hill above the Jasper Vein were kind enough to give me a cabochon. I was hooked. Unfortunately, the Jasper has since been buried and fenced off from the public.
It would be many years before time permitted me to pick up where I left off. But God gives us the desires of our hearts in his timing; we just need to be patient.
